The Buzz About Coffee!

If you’re like me, you go to bed thinking about the cup of coffee that awaits you in the morning!

Coffee has been enjoyed around the world for thousands of years. It was mainly used for medicinal purposes until it was discovered it could also be had as a hot beverage. Today, people drink coffee hot or cold, with an abundance of coffee shops beckoning us to stay a while and enjoy a coffee experience.

Sixty percent of Americans drink coffee, averaging about 3 cups per day.

While most coffee drinkers enjoy immediate benefits of feeling more awake and alert within moments, the long term benefits of drinking coffee are enough to justify a coffee lovers addiction!

Coffee is a calorie free drink that offers a concentrated source of phytochemicals.

Phytochemicals are literally “plant chemicals”. These chemicals provide unique color to plant foods and also protect plants from the harsh realities of the environment. As it turns out, the plant chemicals found in food promote health and prevent disease in humans! In addition to a lower risk of early death, coffee consumption has been linked to decreased risk of several types of cancer, Type 2 diabetes, and some forms of heart disease.

If you are sensitive the caffeine or need to avoid caffeine for medical reasons, decaffeinated coffee offers similar health promotion benefits (minus the alertness).

When selecting coffee, the darker the roast, the stronger the flavor. Coffee beans should be stored at room temperature in an airtight container. Grinding beans just before brewing makes the best tasting coffee. Freezing and refrigeration of coffee beans are not recommended.

Finally-coffee experts state that coffee should be consumed as quickly as possible after roasting.

Do I hear a reason for another cup? I think I do-so drink up!
