Best Diet for Weight Loss

April 8, 2019

What is the best diet for weight loss?  This is a question I get a lot!  The answer depends on several factors.  First, what kind of weight are you hoping to lose?  If you’re trying to shed a few quick pounds to look good in a swimsuit, then the keto diet can do that for you.  The problem is, keto is hard to sustain.  For those who are able to sustain keto longer term, there are significant health consequences.  These include dehydration, kidney stones, and fatty liver. Additionally, your lean muscle tissue is broken down to provide your body the glucose you aren’t feeding it by avoiding carbohydrates.

The overall effect-lose weight, lose muscle, lower metabolism, eat less, gain weight back.

If this doesn’t sound like the plan for you, then what should you do?  Low fat?  High protein? Vegetarian?  What about Mediterranean?  What IS the best diet for weight loss?

Researchers have been trying to answer this question for a number of years.  Guess what?  As it turns out, when it comes to weight loss, it doesn’t really matter if you go low fat or low carb.  If you are producing a calorie deficit, at the end of a year, you’ll have ended up losing the same amount of weight.

So now the critical question for you-what can you stick with?   What’s going to work for you and your current lifestyle?  And if you really are serious about making sustainable changes for overall improved health, then you might also want to know about the best diet for longevity and quality of life.
